Turkish & Armenian Women’s Magazine

I saw an interesting trilingual magazine published in Armenian, Turkish and English yesterday — the Turkish & Armenian Women’s Magazine. For some reason, the link to their web site doesn’t seem to work from my browser and nor can I find the URL in a search but anyway, here’s what the American University Center for Global Peace has to say.

The pilot publication of a new women’s magazine, produced by an editorial board of Turkish and Armenian women, was released in 2004. Women from Turkey and Armenia are co-editors. Topics in the magazine include health, culture, tourism, children, fashion, and cuisine. The magazine also includes interviews with a variety of women role models.

The publication is intended to be a vehicle for cultural exchange between women in both countries and a forum for discussion about women’s issues. 15000 copies of the 96 page production, with articles in Armenian, Turkish and English was distributed in Armenia, Turkey, Europe and the United States. An electronic online version of the magazine is also available.

Might interest you to know that Hrant Dink, the Armenian journalist and editor facing prosecution in Turkey is on the magazine’s Armenian editorial board and that Artur Torosian from ArmeniaNow.com is the magazine’s local photographer. There’s even a little filler on Madlene Minassian, PR Director for the Cafesjian Foundation, and her husband Artur Ispirian. Incidentally, it’s readers in Armenia appear to be the more educated and professional of local women.

On a related note, there’s an interesting article on Armenian and Turkish women coming together here.
