Azerbaijan Votes

Registan.net has an excellent page of news on the imminent parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan. The most interesting reference in his digest is that in one poll, 43 percent of respondents believed that Azerbaijan is able to conduct free elections, while 34 percent believes that it can’t. Well, soon we’ll know.

Whatever happens will have significant ramifications for democratization in Armenia. Meanwhile, there’s an interesting op-ed by Elizabeth Jones, formerly assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs and U.S. ambassador to Kazakhstan, in the Washington Times.
