To be honest, there wasn’t much going on in central Yerevan today — just a few guys dressed up as Father Christmas on Republic Square. In fact, the streets were eerily deserted, although the markets were not. Anyway, most Armenians will celebrate the New Year at home, but the streets should come alive after midnight when people start to visit friends and families. New Year is the main holiday to celebrate, and not least since it comes before Christmas which won’t be celebrated in Armenia until 6 January.
