Video: Desert Nights

Most readers of this blog will be aware that last year Hetq Online published a series of articles on the trafficking of women from Armenia to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). What many of you might not know, however, is that Hetq Online also produced a 49 minute documentary on the same subject matter that was broadcast on Yerkir Media TV.

Anyway, after playing around with posting some excerpts from a documentary film on homelessness in Yerevan that Hetq also produced in 2005, I thought I’d post the full trafficking film here. Unfortunately, because of bandwidth limitations in Armenia, the English subtitles are illegible in places. However, I think you’ll still get the point.

Incidently, because of this investigation into the trafficking of women to Dubai, the Hetq Online site is now blocked in the United Arab Emirates so please click on the graphic above to launch Windows Media Player. Alternatively, you can visit the following URL: http://www.ourmedia.org/node/143598. A broadcast quality fullscreen version on DVD is available from the Hetq Office in Yerevan.

  1. Unfortunately, I can’t play it on the Windows Media Player and the alternative link to the documentary is very blurry. Is there any other way I can be able to watch it?

  2. Yes, its because the video is compressed to oblivion because of my dialup connection here. I hope to get to a proper internet connection next week and post a larger, higher quality version. I’ll post details when I do.
