Yet Another Assassination in Downtown Yerevan
Like I’ve said before, the number of assassinations since the 2003 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections has really started to increase, and this morning brings news of another. This time, the assassination was in central Yerevan, but thankfully there are no reports of any innocent bystanders being killed this time. The web site of Armenian Public Radio has more and I daresay a comprehensive report will be on tonight’s Armenia Liberty.
Shahen Hovhannisyan killed in the center of Yerevan
At about 9:30 this morning member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation, Head of the Operative Investigation Department of the Governmental Tax Agency Shahen Hovhannisyan was killed at Byron Street near the Yerevan Conservatory. According to preliminary data, Shahen Hovasapyan’s GAZ-31 car was exploded. Radiolur correspondent reports there are signs of blood at the site of the murder. Law-enforcement bodies do not comment on the accident. No other details are known.
Anyway, as the 2007 parliamentary elections approach, I daresay the number of such incidents will increase some more. In fact, I have a bad feeling in general about how the run-up to these elections is going to be. When will society wake up and act against this kind of thing?

Ria Novosti carries the news as well.
As does PanArmenian.net:
And, in this story and this one, Arminfo:
A1 Plus’ web site is now back to being updated after being forced to close down during their forced eviction from their previous office by the authorities. Of course, today’s news is also covered albeit in brief.
