I Hate ArmenTel
It’s 3am in the morning and I’m not even half way through sending 40 high resolution images to a magazine in the United States. And it’s no wonder. I’m sitting at my computer in Yerevan where we have to make do with crappy dial up connections costing around $40-50 a month because of the damn ArmenTel monopoly. In Tbilisi, ADSL costs $30-35 a month — five times cheaper than in Armenia — for God’s sake. I really think it’s about time this situation changes — and soon.

Still sounds better when my home, AOL dial-up ($25 a month) in the US. But of course there are lots of options here in America.

How much does DSL or Broadband cost there? I just don’t understand. In England Broadband costs less than a dialup here, as it also does in neighbouring Georgia. In fact, companies are starting to even give Broadband away if you use their mobile phone services in UK.
My friends in England pay 25 quid a month for unlimited broadband, and bear in mind that $150 here for ADSL has a low bandwidth restriction — 1.5 gigabytes. Just searching on the Internet suggests that the case in America too — low prices that is.
Anyway, as I said, the price for Internet access here is ridiculously high and the quality exceedingly bad. Time for things to change. There is NO rationalizing this one, I think.

You can get DSL for $15 a month in the US. My cable connection is about $40 a month.
AOL is probably the worst ISP - one can get Netzero dial-up for $10 a month.

I don’t know about the Internet, but the phone lines are bad too. My friend called me from Armenia and her voice was cutting off… I agree with Onnik about changing the current situtation with Armentel.
