The BBC reports that Saparmurat Niyazov, otherwise known as Turkmenbashi, has died. A1 Plus carries Kocharian’s official condolences although I have to wonder how many people will really lament his passing. Certainly not the ethnic Armenians from Turkmenistan I’ve spoken to.
BOOK OF CONDOLENCES TO OPEN IN EMBASSY OF TURKMENISTAN IN YEREVAN
Yerevan, December 22. ArmInfo. In view of a sudden death of the First President of Independent Turkmenistan, Saparmurat Niyazov, a Book of Condolences will open in the Embassy of Turkmenistan in RA on December 25, 26 and 27, 2006 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM (the Embassy’s address is Nork Marash, Norki Aiginer Str. 288), ArmInfo was told in the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Yerevan.
