Kind of interesting Diaspora-related story regarding Zhirayr Sefilyan's arrest in December. Actually, the story isn't so interesting, but the end quote from RFE/RL's Richard Giragosian is.

“The Diaspora always looks upon Armenia through rose-colored glasses. They give money and don't even ask what is done with that money. Shame on them”, said Richard Kirakosyan.

Anyway.

Observer, your quote about the Diaspora and the larger mention of democracy in the U.K and Armenia was included in one of the posts linked to from this one in the first paragraph. More specifically, it was in the last 2007 Parliamentary Election Monitor here. As for there being no discussion initiated on your post or indeed, any of my recent ones, I'm disappointed too.

Sure, the Diaspora as a collective whole in the form of its main bodies says it does not interfere in the internal political affairs of the Republic of Armenia, but the reality is that it does. Indeed, from what I remember from 2003, almost every main online source of news run by the Diaspora took the time to rationalize and misinform about the last presidential election.

There was next to nothing on the highly falsified November 2005 referendum yet groups in the Diaspora concentrate more on the issue of democracy in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey rather than in Armenia itself. Unfortunate. Sad, even.

I had a partially related post on issues of democracy in Armenia, where I also shortly addressed the issue of Diaspora trying to meddle with the Armenian politics. As I don't have anything more to add to what I had there, and no visitors to look and comment on the topic on the original post, I want to continue that discussion here, so I'll cite what I wrote previously - here again:
