Genocide Resolution Accepted
Despite warnings from Turkey and the White House, the BBC reports that House Resolution 106 which would recognize the massacre and deportation of Armenians living in Ottoman Turkey as Genocide has been passed by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.
A bill recognising the killing of Armenians in Ottoman times as genocide has cleared its first hurdle in the US Congress despite Turkish warnings.
It passed through the House Foreign Affairs Committee by 27 votes to 21 - the first step towards holding a vote in the House of Representatives.
[…]
A spokesperson for the National Security Council told the BBC that the White House was “very disappointed” by the outcome of the vote.
[…]
The result means that only a change of heart by the opposition Democrats, who control Congress, can now stop a full vote.
Divisions within the Foreign Affairs Committee crossed party lines with eight Democrats voting against the measure and eight Republicans voting for it.
Tom Lantos, the committee’s chairman, had opened the debate by admitting the resolution posed a “sobering” choice.
[…]
Mr Lantos, himself a survivor of the Jewish Holocaust, said he would introduce a resolution praising US-Turkish friendship next week, according to AFP news agency.

It was bound to pass and win as the Armenian blood shed by perpetrator is sacred / the cause/case is to be pursued until final restitution is pledged and reparations made-in billions of dollars to us. Do read and re-read what another group has just posted with reference to negotiating with us Armenians - presumably a TARC-like group with Georgians and Turks this over participating…

Justice has been partially served. Finally the US Government agrees that the human being is more important than any politics. By passing this, it shows the Super-Power won’t take threats of any kind and Turkish blackmail doesn’t work anymore.
Thank you United States.
God Bless America

Congratulations to everybody!
This is really awesome move. I hope one day it will be recognized by Congress.

We, Armenian’s, have been waiting a long time for a decision in regard to the first Genocide of the 20th Century.
I’m glad that the prayers of the Armenian families has been answered and all that, through the support of my Armenian brothers and Sisters around the world.
Many thanks for all other nationals, NGO’s and organizaions for their assistance for bringing our Case to the World.
Justice is what we want and only with God’s will, we will win.
