Yerevan Road Mayhem

Komitas, Yerevan, Republic of Armenia © Onnik Krikorian / Oneworld Multimedia 2007

Leaving my apartment this afternoon I feared the worst when I saw an overturned truck by my local kiosk with policemen and a crowd standing around it. As I got closer I took out my mobile phone to take a picture while first checking to see if there were any injured. Concern for casualties has to come first although I figured that as there appeared to be e a TV crew was on the scene, police had lightened up a bit and the accident wasn’t as serious as it at first looked.

Thankfully, you’ll be pleased to discover, it wasn’t what it at first appeared. “What happened?” I asked one man observing proceedings. “Kino,” he responded. “Armenian Hollywood.” Sure enough, on taking a second look there was some guy with a megaphone organizing everything while part of his film crew were literally placing glass on the ground. Not sure what the naked mannequin dummies were scattered behind the truck, but anyway.

Thankfully my initial fears about more road mayhem on Yerevan’s roads were misplaced. Didn’t have time to stick around to find out more, though.

  1. Looks like the truck doesn’t have a transmission.
