Georgia: U.S. Embassy Warden Message
A friend has just forwarded me another U.S. Embassy Warden Message cautioning American citizens from being in the vicinity of opposition protests in Tbilisi. The message follows Wednesday’s clash with police in the Georgian capital.
U.S. Embassy Yerevan
November 8, 2007This is to provide information to American citizens considering travel to Georgia. The Department of State issued a Public Announcement after several days of demonstrations in the capital city Tbilisi and President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili’s declaration of a state of emergency for Tbilisi. The US Embassy in Yerevan, Armenia strongly urges American citizens to avoid the area of demonstrations if traveling to Georgia. For the latest information on events in Georgia, please go to the following website:

Incidentally, the last message cautioned U.S. citizens to stay away from the 26 October opposition rally in Yerevan, and I’m glad to see they’re being sent. The British Embassy, for example, hasn’t sent me a single warden message to me for at least five years.
Not that it would stop me, but anyway, it would be nice to see my Embassy give a damn about the well-being of its citizens for a change.

I guess your embassy is too efficient - they don’t want to waste resources where it won’t help!

“Efficient” is not one of the words that springs to mind when thinking about the British Embassy in Yerevan. Too many bad stories to tell about quite the opposite, and more than that, the total lack of regard and concern it has for its citizens in Armenia. I can only hope that they’re a little better in Georgia.
