ArmenTel Problems
Following on from problems sending emails because ArmenTel is on an international blacklist for spam, it now seems as though I can’t access or update my main Oneworld Multimedia site or the Armenia Election Monitor 2008 blog. Instead, I have to use any other internet provider other than ArmenTel. For now, I’m not sure why I can access other sites inside and outside Armenia, but not my own. Whereas before I couldn’t send emails via an ArmenTel connection, I now also can’t receive them.
Anyway, this blog is thankfully not affected, but if anyone has any ideas as to why this situation has arisen please leave a comment. I’d also like to hear from other ArmenTel ISP users if the same is true for them. The URLS I can’t access are the following:

Can you ping them? What are your results? What about doing a traceroute?

Tried pinging and nothing happens at all. No text even. The command consol just hangs and quits after 20 or so seconds. My site is hosted on an American server through Netsys and I can’t access their site — http://www.netsys.am — either. The marvellous (NOT) ArmenTel strikes again — and they clearly don’t give a damn. Is there no end to this monster effectively created by Ter Petrosian and Kocharian in 1997-8?

Aren’t there any other ISP-s? I remember my brother using some other dial-up ISP.
If there is one, vote with your wallet and ditch ArmenTel.

Yeah, you’re right, Nazarian, but ArmenTel is the cheapest and the easiest — just gets tagged onto your phone bill without having to wander into an office once a month to pay in person. However,if the service sucks…
Anyway, as of now, it’s finally working again and I can actually send emails for the first time in months. Let’s see how long it stays like that. As it was I was using a combination of ISPs for everything. Xter.net and Netsys for sending and receiving emails, ArmenTel for browsing the web.
The entire Internet situation in Armenia sucks, in fact.
