Salvation Army to use Georgia Photo
After visiting Georgia’s second largest city of Kutaisi at the beginning of the year for the Newport Kutaisi Association and EveryChild, the U.S. branch of the Salvation Army yesterday contacted me regarding using one of my images for the front cover of a brochure they’ll be producing. They specifically requested the use of one image included in the audio slide show presentation I produced for the Newport Kutaisi Association and EveryChild.
Anyway, it’s always nice when this happens, although I still fail to understand why despite spending nearly seven years on vulnerable children and poverty issues in Armenia it rarely happens with local organizations or NGOs here in Armenia. Probably I’m not “connected” enough or something, but anyway, I’m increasingly beginning to understand that the only way to work professionally here is to actually deal with organizations and publications based outside the country.

Still, I tackled most of the issues related to vulnerable children and families in Armenia years before even the government and international organizations did through the Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP) so it’s anyway probably time to move on. Specifically, I’m always interested in more work in Georgia and actually anywhere in the CIS if there are any organizations out there interested. Some of my work can be seen in the photojournalism section of my main site or on my Lightstalkers portfolio page.
The Georgia presentation for the Newport Kutaisi Association and EveryChild is here.
Many of the images were also blogged about here and here, and the last work I undertook in Armenia on socially vulnerable children was for UNICEF. A PDF version of the publication which was written, photographed and designed by yours truly is available for download on the main Oneworld Multimedia site. If anyone is interested, some of other work on socially vulnerable families can be found in my book, Armenia: Poverty, Transition & Democracy, which can be purchased in Yerevan.
Please see the relevant section on my web site for more details.

Talking of published material, and as mentioned earlier, the magazine of the Royal Geographical Society in England, Geographical, will be publishing my feature story accompanied by photographs on Yezidis in Armenia in their January 2008 issue.
I also think that Levon Ter Petrosian’s team will be using one of my images for their publicity needs in the near future too although I hope to know more on this on Saturday. For the record, use of the image doesn’t represent a conflict of interests, but I do consider it necessary to highlight.
