2007 Google Analytics Statistics
In the interest of transparency given the tendency for many sites to inflate the number of readers, with some confusing hits and page views with the number of actual accesses, Google Analytics reports the following in terms of statistics for this blog in 2007:
| Visitors: | 94,404 |
| Absolute Unique Visitors: | 58,742 |
| Page views | 176,175 |
In terms of geographical location, 43,307 of accesses came from the U.S., 11,099 from Armenia, with the remainder split between 165 other countries or territories. Interestingly, 44.25 percent of accesses came from search engine queries, 38.45 percent from referring sites and 17.28 percent was direct.
Yes, it’s a fraction of the accesses that PanArmenian.Net gets, but I’m not an NGO, I don’t have a staff, and this blog is updated in my spare time. Nor is this blog available in English, Russian and Armenian.
Access is also about 30-50 percent of that enjoyed by Hetq Online and Armenia Now for their combined Armenian and English language editions according to Circle.am.
So, compared to those two publications which receive significant amounts in funding and employ an extensive staff, I don’t think the Oneworld Multimedia blog is doing too badly.
Of course, there’s always room for improvement and that’s one goal that I hope will be achieved during 2008. Regardless, thanks to those of you that call back from time to time.
Incidentally, Statcounter.com reports 115,543 unique visits and 192,749 page views for 2007. However, the industry standard appears to be Google Analytics so I’ll go with that even if it is the lowest common denominator.

BTW: Regarding my other blog, the Armenia Election Monitor 2008, the statistics are obviously much lower. Although I don’t have stats for the full year given that it was started only in July, this is what I do have for a little over five months online:
Period: 20 July - 31 December 2007
In terms of where accesses came from, 46.71 percent came from referring sites, 45.73 percent came from search engines, and 7.56 percent was direct traffic. Readers in the U.S. constituted the majority at 2,735 with Armenia second at 1,576. The rest was split between 94 other countries and territories.
Statcounter.com reports 6,623 unique visitors and 11,522 page views for the same period which only goes to show how statistics can vary from service to service even without the necessary analysis of what the figures actually mean.
Anyway, not very promising it has to be said, although that might indicate a lack of interest in the presidential election. For example, comparing my statistics with other sites dealing solely with the February vote, this seems to be a common pattern.
For example, according to circle.am, the number of visitors in the past month for a few solely election-related sites is as follows.
Hopefully, this will change for all of us when the pre-election campaign gets underway in a few weeks. However, when compared to funded online election sites, the Armenia Election Monitor 2008 can be seen to be doing very well indeed. Well, relatively, anyway.
This is especially the case as E-Channel and the Mediamax site are available in multiple languages whereas the Armenia Election Monitor 2008 blog is available only in English. However, I think a lot of the reason for this can be attributed to search engine requests.
